Santino Fontana (Tony Elliot in Billy Elliot) chooses: Natsumi
Barbara Matsumura and Haru Konagaya, formerly of the Haru chain, teamed 20 months ago to create Natsumi (translation: beauty of summer), a striking destination for Japanese cuisine with an Italian fusion twist. The partners were influenced during a trip to Verona. Executive chef Konagaya uses imported olive oil, balsamic vinegar, herbs and red baby amarones. Dinner starters include Japanese rolls, such as the Fortissimo (seared salmon with avocado, peperoncino and Parmesan cheese), tuna/salmon sashimi arugula salad, a raw bar, sushi and such “new style” appetizers as spicy crab pizza and green tea ravioli. Entrées include broiled Chilean sea bass and grilled chicken and shrimp in spicy garlic sauce. Tempura cheesecake with fresh berries is a sumptuous and tempting dessert.
Along with Japanese beers and martinis, there are 30 varieties of sake and fruit-infused sake drinks.
