Tony Nominee Carol Lawrence Will Star in New York Premiere of Handle With Care at the Westside
By Carey Purcell
Handle With Care, a new play by Emmy Award nominee Jason Odell Williams, starring Tony Award nominee Carol Lawrence, will play the Westside Theatre Downstairs.
Directed by Karen Carpenter (Love, Loss and What I Wore), preview performances will begin Dec. 3, prior to an official opening Dec. 15.
Along with Lawrence (West Side Story, Kiss of the Spider Woman), the cast also includes Sheffield Chastain (White Christmas, Is He Dead?), Charlotte Cohn (Coram Boy, La Boheme) and Jonathan Sale (The Shape of Things, Soldier's Play).
"Handle With Care tells the story of a young Israeli woman who reluctantly travels with her grandmother to America," press notes state. "Fate and hilarious circumstances bring together the young woman, who has little command of English, and a young American man with little command of romance. Is their inevitable love an accident? Or destiny generations in the making?"
The creative team includes David Arsenault (set design), Cory Pattak (lighting design), Wojcik|Seay (casting) and Brierpatch Productions (general management).
