The Lion King Tour Takes in Over $1 Billion at the Box Office; Tour Dates Announced through Summer 2014

Disney's Tony-winning musical The Lion King is celebrating two North American tour milestones, with the Gazelle tour playing its 100th engagement and the total touring box office gross now exceeding $1 billion.
Since 2002 more than 15 million theatregoers in over 70 cities across North America have seen the record-breaking musical.
The Lion King, which is currently the longest-running production on the road, opens July 11 at The State Theatre in Cleveland, OH, and plays for four weeks through Aug. 4, 2013.
“After 11 years of touring this theatrical phenomenon, we are tremendously proud to celebrate these milestones with our partners throughout North America who have presented The Lion King with consummate care and a tireless commitment to protecting the vision of the show’s creators,” said David Schrader, executive vice president and managing director, Disney Theatrical Productions, in a statement. “We look forward to many more years of sharing Julie Taymor’s extraordinary artistry with audiences across North America.”
