Broadway's Bacharach-David Revue The Look of Love to Close June 15

30 May 2003

The Roundabout Theatre Company's Broadway production of The Look of Love has canceled its extension to June 29 at the Brooks Atkinson Theatre and will close on its originally scheduled date, June 15, a spokesperson confirmed.

The musical revue featuring the songs of Burt Bacharach and Hal David began performances April 4 and opened May 4 to some unfavorable reviews. The production also failed to garner any Tony Award nominations.

Scott Ellis stages the work with choreography of Ann Reinking — both of whom, along with David Thompson and David Loud, conceived the production. The cast features Liz Callaway, Kevin Ceballo, Jonathan Dokuchitz, Eugene Fleming, Capathia Jenkins, Janine LaManna, Shannon Lewis, Rachelle Rak, Desmond Richardson, pit singers Farah Alvin and Nikki Renée Daniels as well as swings Allyson Turner and Eric Jordan Young.

The design team includes Derek McLane (set), Martin Pakledinaz (costume), Howell Binkley (lighting) and Brian Ronan (sound). Music direction and arrangements are by David Loud. Don Sebesky handles orchestrations.

Among the array of tunes audience will hear include some late '60s, early '70s classic — such as "I Say a Little Prayer," "What's New, Pussycat," "What the World Needs Now," "Close to You," "Wishin' and Hopin'," "Walk on By," and the title song — and a brand new song title "Beginnings." The smooth songs of the duo were made famous by such artists as Tom Jones, The Fifth Dimension, B.J. Thomas, Dusty Springfield and Dionne Warwick.

For tickets to The Look of Love at the Atkinson, 256 West 47 Street, call (212) 307-7171.
