The Dora Awards, which annually honor excellence in Toronto’s professional theatre community, were given out at a gala ceremony at the Bluma Appel Theatre, hosted by Matt Baram and Naomi Snieckus of the National Theatre of the World.
Nominations were announced by the Toronto Alliance for the Performing Arts June 4.
In the General Theatre Division, Outstanding Production went to Buddies in Bad Times Theatre's Obaaberima, and Outstanding New Play went to Kristen Thomson's Someone Else. Chris Abraham won Outstanding Direction for The Little Years. Tom Rooney won Outstanding Male Performance for his role in Someone Else, and Irene Poole won Outstanding Female Performance for her role in The Little Years. The ensemble of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead won Outstanding Ensemble Performance.
In the Musical Theatre Division, The Young People's Theatre production of Cinderella won Outstanding Production, and Harbourfront Centre's World Stage's production of She She Pop & Their Fathers: Testament won Outstanding Touring Production. Bruce Dow won Outstanding Male Performance for Of A Monstrous Child: a gaga musical, and Lisa Horner won Outstanding Female Performance for her role in The Wizard of Oz, while Outstanding Ensemble Performance went to the ensemble of Cinderella.
