Anderson's 1968 play, according to Keen Company, "explores one son's struggle to balance his own happiness with the needs of his aging parents, and his yearning for a closer relationship with the father he cannot change. Gene Garrsion is a grown man with a successful career, but when his parents arrive for a visit, he finds himself in that awkward position of feeling like a child again. When tragedy strikes, Gene is forced to examine his responsibility to himself and his family in new ways."
