The Public Theater will stage The Merchant of Venice and The Winter's Tale in repertory as the 2010 summer programming for Shakespeare in the Park at the Delacorte Theater in Central Park.

One company of actors will be assembled to perform both productions that will run June 9-Aug. 1. Merchant of Venice will feature direction by Tony Award winner Daniel Sullivan, who staged Twelfth Night to acclaim this past summer. Also returning will be 2007 SITP Romeo and Juliet director Michael Greif, who will helm The Winter's Tale.

The company of actors and designers will be announced at a later date.

"This is a major step for The Public," said artistic director Oskar Eustis in a statement. "Continuity of work is the key to great theatre of all kinds; this is especially true for Shakespeare. The particular delights of repertory for an audience are meaningful; the depth of artistic work it allows for actors is inimitable."

The Public previously presented repertory productions of Henry IV, Parts One and Two at its downtown hub in 1991, while a condensed version of the Henry VI plays and Richard III, entitled The War of the Roses played in repertory 20 years prior.
