Westchester's 2009 Season to Feature Titanic, 42nd Street and More

By Adam Hetrick
08 Sep 2008

A Wonderful Life, 42nd Street, Beehive and Titanic will be part of the Westchester Broadway Theatre's 35th season, which kicks off Nov. 20.

The first offering of the season will be the musical version of the 1946 classic film, "It's a Wonderful Life," playing Nov. 20-Feb. 7, 2009. Featuring music by Joe Raposo and book and lyrics by Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner Sheldon Harnick (Fiddler on the Roof), A Wonderful Life follows George Bailey and his rescue by a wingless guardian angel.

Dan Goggin's Meshuggah Nuns! follows, playing Feb. 12-March 21, 2009. "The fifth edition of the popular Nunsense series finds the fun-loving nuns on the USS Golden Delicious for a 'Faith of all Nations' world cruise," according to press notes. "When the cast of Fiddler on the Roof (with the exception of the guy playing Tevye) gets seasick, the ship's captain asks the sisters and Tevye to put on a show."

Maury Yeston's Tony Award-winning musical Titanic will arrive March 26-June 14, 2009. Featuring a book by Peter Stone, Yeston's sweeping score follows the maiden voyage and epic tragedy of the "ship of dreams," through the eyes of those on board.

Off-Broadway's long-running relationship musical, I Love You, You're Perfect, Now Change! will play June 18-Aug. 2, 2009. Featuring book and lyrics by Joe DiPietro and music by Jimmy Roberts, I Love You, You're Perfect… is a comedic trip through "the jungle of the modern-day mating game."

The 1960's "revuesical" Beehive takes to the Westchester stage Aug. 6-Sept. 19, 2009. Larry Gallagher penned the musical salute to the women whose music defined the times; songs include "My Boyfriend's Back," "One Fine Day," "Where the Boys Are," "Downtown," "Proud Mary," "A Natural Woman" and "Respect."

The Broadway favorite, 42nd Street, taps its way onto the Westchester stage Sept. 24-Nov. 28, 2009. With a book by Michael Stewart and Mark Bramble and a score by Harry Warren and Al Dubin, the dance extravaganza, based on the classic 1933 movie, follows unknown Peggy Sawyer from chorus girl to overnight Broadway star.

Concluding the season will be Plaid Tidings, running Dec. 2-Jan. 3, 2010. Stuart Ross' sequel to Forever Plaid includes such holiday favorites as "Rudolf the Red-Nosed Reindeer," "Angels We Have Heard On High," and "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus," in the signature Plaid Doo-wop style.
