The Lady with The Torch Kicks Off Patti LuPone’s 54 Below Multi-Year Deal
Olivier and two-time Tony winner Patti LuPone stepped onto the 54 Below stage to preview The Lady with The Torch, the cabaret show that will kick off her multi-year deal with the speakeasy-styled nightspot — twice yearly through 2016, LuPone will play two-week engagements at the venue. The cast of the North American tour of Disney’s The Lion King made a special pit stop on their rounds. On July 18, a special "Kids' State Dinner" found them performing for First Lady Michelle Obama and guests at the White House. Cast members including Tshidi Manye, L. Steven Taylor and Jelani Remy performed "Circle of Life" and "He Lives in You" to celebrate the winners of the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge, a national challenge to promote healthy eating as part of the First Lady's "Let's Move!" Buyer and Cellar's Barrett Foa recently adopted a dog himself, so he felt extra energized by the goings-on at Broadway Barks. The 16th edition of the adopt-a-thon once again filled Shubert Alley with adorable dogs and cats in need of forever homes. Foa mingled with human and critters alike at the Broadway Cares/Equity Fight AIDS produced event which was hosted by co-founder Bernadette Peters. Proceeds from the auction and all donations benefit the participating shelters and rescue groups as well as the Picasso Veterinary Fund. See a star-studded Photo Call from the event.

Maestro Bernstein: Conductor or Composer?
Virtuoso pianist Hershey Felder brings Leonard Bernstein to life in Maestro Bernstein: A Play With Music. The show combines first-person narrative with the compositions of Bernstein and others to flesh out the complex life of the conductor, composer, pianist, author and teacher. Here, Felder sat down with Playbill to chat about the musical legend and perform some selections from the show, including West Side Story's "Maria." The July 17 performance takes place at The Town Hall.

"It Could Be Worse" and Lillias White's Ongoing Birthday Bash This Week at 54 Below
It's a busy week at nightspot 54 Below. Series creators Wesley Taylor and Mitchell Jarvis present a launch concert for season two of "It Could Be Worse," the acclaimed web series turned TV series. The one night performance (July 15 at 9:30 PM) will feature series guest stars who will sing tunes that were not featured in the show itself, but that highlight the characters' emotional arcs and storylines. Also, Broadway's Lillias White brings The Birthday Show (July 18 at 8:00 PM and July 19 at 8:00 and 11:00 PM) to the stage. Her set will feature songs from across the musical spectrum — from blues-rock to show tunes to jazzy classics. Visit 54Below.com for details.
