PLAYBILL.COM'S CUE & A: Aaron Lazar

By Ernio Hernandez
03 Sep 2008

Aaron Lazar

Aaron Lazar — who co-stars in the new Broadway musical A Tale of Two Cities — fills out Playbill.com's questionnaire with random facts, backstage trivia and pop culture tidbits.

Full given name: Aaron Scott Lazar
Hometown: Cherry Hill, NJ
Zodiac sign: On the cusp of Gemini/Cancer
Audition song: Depends on who is doing the torturing on the other side of the table :)
First Broadway show ever saw: Annie I think…maybe The Secret Garden. I should ask my mom.
If you could go back in time and catch any Broadway show, what would it be? Brando in Streetcar, Burgess Meredith in Liliom, George Hearn in Sweeney Todd.
Current show you have been recommending to friends: August: Osage County
Favorite show tune: So many! "Stranger in Paradise," "Younger Than Springtime," "Soliloquy," "Maria," "Private Conversation," "Bring Him Home," anything from The Light in the Piazza, I could go on and on and on….
Most played song on your iPod: Led Zeppelin "Ramble On"
Last blog you read: my blog: www.simplybroadway.com
Must-see TV show: "Generation Kill" on HBO
Last good movie you saw: "Dark Knight" in IMAX!
Favorite board game: On the rare occasion we play, Balderdash is totally fun.
Performer you would drop everything to go see: Were they still with us/performing, Elvis, Luciano Pavarotti, Michael Jackson, Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Beatles. Now I dunno…maybe U2, Prince, John Mayer…
Pop culture guilty pleasure: "So You Think You Can Dance" (I am in awe of brilliant dancers/choreographers!)
First stage kiss: 42nd Street, high school, sophomore year. I was Julian Marsh. Peggy Sawyer was a senior. It was "grand, grand, grand…"! So funny how you remember that stuff.
Favorite post-show meal: Bowl of ice cream with some cookies crushed on top…sugar, sugar, salt, and more sugar.
How you got your Equity card: Spent a summer during grad school at Pittsburgh CLO doing feature ensemble stuff. Soooo much fun!
Worst onstage mishap: In the one time I went on for the Pimpernel in the nat'l tour, I nearly broke my neck in the pre-show guillotine rehearsal. I'll never forget 'Down, Back, Knock!'
Worst costume ever: Broadway Phantom of the Opera Gollywog ties with my Papageno bird costume in college.
Favorite cereal: (Guilty) Fruity Pebbles; (Healthy) Autumn Wheat.
Who would play you in the movie? Christian Bale or Hugh Jackman.
Worst job you ever had: Cleaning up Equity actors' housing at a regional theater one summer while in the ensemble. Man, some Broadway stars are slobs!
TV or commercial gig you most enjoyed: The Light in the Piazza live on PBS was a night I'll never forget.
Leading man role you've been dying to play: Chris in All My Sons, Terry in Side Show, Tony in West Side Story.
